Why does confidence matter?

I find this quote from the Kid's Health website insightful yet simple. With confidence you are more likely to move forward. That in itself is already fundamentally powerful. Then the second part, confidence helps you try again if things don't work out at first.

I can think of other ways of saying why confidence matters but this neatly and simply sums it up.
